USTH

The creation of the USTH has been formalized through an intergovernmental agreement on November 12th 2009 between Madame Valérie Pécresse, Minister of Research and Higher Education of France and M. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam.

Campus:

The first courses will open in October 2010 and be conducted on the Campus of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), a temporary facility that will be used while awaiting construction of the USTH Campus in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park.

VAST is the scientific partner in the USTH venture. It will implement the scientific component of the project and liaise with all Vietnamese scientific agencies associated with USTH.

VAST is one of Vietnam’s leading science and technology research institutes. It has been developing its activity with numerous international partners for 28 years now.

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology includes the following institutes: Institute of Mathematics, Institute of Information Technology, Institute of Mechanics, Institute of Physics, Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Biotechnology, Institute of Geography, Institute of Geophysics, Institute of Tropical Technology, Institute of Oceanography.

Over 100 students are doing their doctoral thesis under VAST, while another 200 are completing their Master of Science Degree.

The institutes are equipped with state-of-the-art research tools, directed by high-calibre experts on secondment through international partnerships.
VAST feels that inter-university exchanges are very important and it promotes mobility in scientific cooperation with other research centres and overseas universities.

The Academy has a current staff of 2,464 employees, including 207 professors and associate professors, 673 PhD and 538 Master’s degree holders.
