International Professors International Professors are the Project's academics in the field. They travel to developing-world universities to help further the project goals related to population, environment and security studies, but are welcomed into the project from most academic disciplines. International Professors both teach and develop internationalized curricula at their chosen universities. They mentor about-to-be and fledgling professors at the local level, to help develop a well-trained corps of International Professors. Professor D. Anusuya is Chair of the Botany Department of Bangalore University. She has extensive, formal experience mentoring graduate students. She has published and or presented 65 papers at many international conferences in her areas of expertise: organic farming for sustainable agriculture, bio-fertilizers, bio-inoculants and bio-pesticides, growing endangered medicinal plants, and ethno-medico-botanical, pharmocognostical and pharmacological studies of endangered rare medical plants of industrial importance. She received the 2003 Scientist of the Year award from the National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi. She works with many NGO's and industries around the world. Dr. Anusuya links volunteers with organic farmers, promotes educational exchange and community consciousness of ecological farming practices, and has been engaged in other researches and activities too numerous to list. Professor Sten Gunnarsson was an International Professor, serving together with Professor Krate in China through the spring of 2003. A much-traveled Icelander who speaks eight languages, Sten's work and studies has taken him from North America to West Africa, Iceland to Asia. Sten returns as an International Professor to Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in 2005, to teach International Relations. Professor David Hamilton Jones took his first degree at the London School of Economics, and his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics at the University of London. His interests lie mainly in economic, cultural and political geography. From broadcasting English lessons over Radio Moscow, to teaching in the Sudan, Nigeria, the Bahamas, the University of the South Pacific, and at the University of Calgary, where he is now an emeritus associate professor of Geography, he stands as our exemplar of the peripatetic International Professor. David pioneered the development of field studies programs in geography at Calgary. Also an artist, David has executed commissions and painted independently in about 25 countries on six continents. He organized the Calgary Explorers Club, leading group visits to Southeast Asia, Central America, the Eastern Mediterranean, and several other spots on the globe. He has written many books. David is fluent in English and French, conversant in Spanish, with some knowledge of Arabic, Russian and, increasingly, Chinese.
Professor Driss Kettani holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He is an International Professor in Computer Science at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco, an internationally-focused, mile-high school in a cedar forest.
Professor Pham Le Thu Nga is Deputy Dean, School of Management at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. She holds both a B.A and a master's degree from the University of Melbourne. Among her varied teaching and research interests are international finance, international marketing, international business, and microeconomics.
International Instructors International Instructors are Project academics both locally and in the field. They are based in developing-world universities to help further the program goals, as they both teach and develop internationalized curricula at their chosen universities. They mentor graduate students about to become instructors and fledgling instructors at the local level, to help develop a well-trained corps of International Professors. Instructor Dinh Le Mai teaches International Finance and International Accounting at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. Instructor Mai earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Melbourne, and her master's from the University of Sydney. Instructor Guo Junhua (alias Sherry English) teaches at Beijing New Oriental University. Junhua was born in Henan province, and studied English and Education at Shangqiu Education College in Henan Province. Her 2001 graduation found Junhua teaching English at the Minquan Middle School where she was named "Excellent Teacher of The Year 2001". During the summers from 2000 to 2002, she ran a training class and excelled at enrolling hundreds of primary and middle students. Junhua earned her BA at Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute in 2003. Junhua's research includes how to effectively teach students of different ages and different English levels, having herself taught English to "VIP Students between the ages of 18 and 50. She states that "patience and enthusiasm, the care and encouragement of students are necessary for the lecturer."Extensive translation experience, coupled with serving as an interpreter in such venues as the Shanghai Photo Show, further illustrates her extensive experience in a few short years. Sherry English closes her bio with: "I hope to share the joy of learning English with my students and to explore Western culture." Instructor Hoang Thi Huong Giang teaches International Finance and International Business at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. Instructor Giang holds a M.Sc. degree from Ceram Sophia, in Nice and an M.B.A. from the Asian Institute of Technology's School of Management, in Bangkok.
Prof. Sanu has completed a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with specialization in Financial Management from Mangalore University, Masters Degree in Economics (M. A. Eco) from C.C.S. University, Meerut, Ph. D, from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, it is well-reputed University in India. more... Instructor Huangfu Wei received his M.A. from the Foreign Language College of China's foremost maritime university, Dalian. A lecturer at Beijing's Electric Power University, Instructor Wei studies learning behaviors and strategies of Chinese students, about which he has written several papers. Wei's studies have employed quantitative methods. He plans to do his future research cross-culturally and internationally. Instructor Junqiang Wei was born in Shaanxi Province, P.R.China. He received his B.A. in Information and Computational Science in 2001 from Xi'an Jiaotong University and a Master's Degree in Computational Mathematics in 2004 from Shanghai Normal University. Apart of the Math and Physics department, he lectures on Math at Beijing North China Electric Power University. Wei's major responsibilities are the Numerical Solution of Differential Equations, and his current research interests include: theoretical and numerical aspects of bifurcation theory; analytical and numerical study of autonomous and time-periodic ODEs from applications (Calculus); he is also involved in the numerical solutions of differential equations and statistics computing. Instructor Mu Huili, born in Henan province, I studied English and literature at Yantai University in Shandong Province from 1997 to 2001. Out of Huili's fascination with English and English cultures, she attended Xiamen University for her MA degree and also furthered her study, majoring in culture study and translation. There, she received training in interpreting skills. During the following three years in Xiamen, Huili worked part time as an English teacher to gain experience for her future teaching career. In addition to publishing articles in academic journals, she helped edit a Chinese-English dictionary and contributed to the Chinese Family Culture Study Association. Currently, Huili teaches English at Beijing Normal University, hoping to share the joy of learning English with her students and to explore with them "the intriguing culture behind the language." Instructor Ngo Thi Phuong Lan holds an M.A. from the University of Toronto. She teaches cultural anthropology at Vietnam National University, School of Social Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City. Instructor Nguyen Thi Khuyen is an English lecturer at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. Instructor Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen teaches International Relations and is a researcher at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies' Vietnam Development Project. Instructor Huyen earned her M.A. from the University of Leeds. Instructor Nguyet Thi Minh Nguyen lectures at the Faculty of International Relations of the Institute for Journalism and Communications (IJC), Hanoi. Formerly, at OXFAM, she worked to improve the living standards of women in Quang Ninh Province. She has taught courses in the process of producing an article; and taught reading and writing skills in English and French. Nguyen has trained in teaching and curriculum development with the Asian Political and International Association (Malaysia), and in modern teaching methods at her Institute. She was one of the top two students in the Print Media faculty at IJC; Best Student in online journalism; and placed in the top 10 students in the school of Economics, Institute for International Relations. Nguyen was awarded Best Pupil Prize,1998, bestowed by the President of Quang Ninh Province, which is awarded for the best academic performance in the entire Province. Her references are an impressive internationally-comprised listing, in IR, child rights, journalism and communications. Instructor Pham Hoang Yen is an English lecturer at Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City. Instructor Than Phuong Nga teaches International Studies at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. Assistant Instructor Pham Linh teaches English and Business English at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. Assistant Instructor Vitor Miguel Duarto Silva teaches Portuguese and has designed and been developing a Portuguese Language Department, at the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. IPP has requested that he remain at HUFS for an additional year to complete the departmental development, adding courses in Portuguese culture and history. Assistant Instructor Silva taught Portuguese language and culture at the University of Oxford, and taught Portuguese to Chinese high school students in Portugal. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Lisbon. Assistant Instructor Trinh Phuong My is an administrator of Hanoi University of Foreign Studies' Business school, and teaches, an Assistant International Instructor, Business English. Assistant Instructor My is currently studying International Trade, and plans to pursue a master's in business overseas. Assistant Instructor Tranh Trung Nguyen teaches English at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. He plans to further his studies in business, after completing his master's in English in 2005. Assistant Instructor Tran Van Dung teaches business at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies, and is studying English while pursuing an MBA at the University of International Trade, one of the five fast-tracked Viet Nam schools. The Project expects that several of these young global instructors will elect, in coming years, to teach overseas when the Project can place them, in Cambodia, China and elsewhere in Asia. |
