Dr. Kåre Hellum is Emeritus Professor, The University of Alberta, Canada. Kåre joins the Project specifically to focus upon Environmental Science and Studies, specifically applied to environmental protection and management. He arrived in Canada from Norway at 22 to study forestry at the University at British Columbia, and did his graduate work at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Hellum has published about 50 scientific papers on biology, silviculture and forestry, as well five handbooks on forestry and mountain culture, seedlings and trees in Bhutan, Thailand, and Guyana, and another on a painter's year in Bhutan.He has for CESO dealt with forest management issues on aboriginal projects;in Bhutan with the UN in setting up a forest research organization; in the Philippines on watershed restoration problems and reforestation; and additionally with other organizations in several countries on seed technology and other forestry matters. He has extensive experience in producing botanical illustrations.
