Professor Naraynaswamy Audinarayana (Ph.D., University of Tirupati, India, Population Studies), is Professor and Head of Population Studies at Bharathiar University, Tamil Nadu, India. He has been Research Officer at the International Institute of Population Sciences, Bombay: Demographic Consequences of a Development… Project; and at the Department of Population Studies, SV University, for the Value of Children, Work Participation of Women and Fertility Behavior Project.

Naray has conducted many sponsored research projects, funded by UGC, New Dehli; the Population & Investigation Committee, UK, and UNDP on such topics as women’s status and fertility behavior; women’s work behavior, participation, and reproductive health; their status & fertility in an urban setting, Tamil Nada; demographic studies, including demographic transition in selected districts of India; family planning and determinants of high risk sexual behavior; fertility transition, and the status and well-being of the elderly, both in Tamil Nada. He has published monographs and books on these topics and on population, gender empowerment and health in South India, and sociocultural dimensions of marriage in rural India. Naray has mentored many Ph.D. and M.A. students’ research and dissertations.
