Professor Ulla Larsen i s a demographer with special interest in women’s reproductive health, such as infertility, induced abortion, contraceptive use, domestic violence, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS.  Her main area of interest is sub-Saharan Africa and she has field experience in Tanzania and Nigeria.  She is born in Denmark, has worked in Sweden and keeps collaborative ties with colleges in Scandinavia.  Also, she is currently collaborating with a group of public health professionals in Palestine on the demography of Palestine.  She aims to enhance the understanding of the role of social and behavioral factors in public health and demography. Her research is based on a quantitative approach, while she collaborates with colleagues using qualitative methods.  Currently, she is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has a Ph.D. and M.A. in demography and sociology from Princeton University and an MA in History from Denmark.
