Professor Stephen Gudeman (Ph.D. Cambridge University), is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Minnesota. Stephen develops an anthropolgical perspective on economy, exploring the interplay of how local cultural models (in rural Panama and Columbia, and urban communities in Guatamala, and the U.S.) and Western theories provide a reflection on both. He sees economy as being built on key interrelationships, such as the tension of community and individual, and mutuality and impersonal trade. He is intrigued by the "transitional" economies and therefore has visted Cuba often. Students of his have been working there and in Eastern Europe. He has had several books published by the Cambridge University, Oxford University and Routledge presses.
