THE ENDANGERED ALPHABETS PROJECT

We’ve all heard about endangered species. But what about endangered languages? Tim Brookes researches languages on the brink of being completely forgotten, and he’s here to break ‘em down and store ‘em up with his Endangered Alphabets project. Brookes carves and paints near-extinct writing systems from Indonesia, Nigeria, and beyond into wood, and he’s planning a traveling exhibition to preserve these scripts and the fascinating cultures they embody.

The Endangered Alphabets Project needs invites for a Vermont a professor traveling the world to attempt to save endangered languages... Please help.

Dr. Debbie RabinaDebbie Rabina Presented IPP at The annual conference of ALISE

Debbie Rabina  Presented IPP at The annual conference of ALISE (Association of Library and Information Science Educators) held this January in Seattle, had as its theme Habits of Mind and Practice: Preparing Reflective Professionals. The International Education SIG presented a panel of five speakers that spoke about Optimizing Teaching Experiences Abroad.

The panel was well attended and the audience had an opportunity to hear, most for the first time, about IPP and the type of people IPP seems to attract, many young people with academic credentials that are choosing an alternative to the traditional academic track route. Other panelists included someone from Fulbright, and three individuals that told their personal story of teaching abroad in Indonesia, American Samoa, and India.
